Hello, hope you’re well.
It’s interview number SIXTEEN of ‘With What Do I dOOdle?’ and, this time it’s with my very wonderful friend and brilliant artist/illustrator Sally Meier.
I love using all sorts of things to draw with and I’m always up for a favourite tools chat, SO I’ve been asking some fellow creatives what they like to use.
Sally is an illustrator and artist living in South East London. Alongside being one of the best market buddies EVER, she create’s artwork of interior and travel scenes, and food and table settings, in pen, ink and watercolour. Sally loves to capture happy moments or holiday memories, generally involving food with beautiful views.
Sally previously worked as an Interior & Prop Stylist for various interior magazines, and then full time at Osborne & Little. Illustrating sets for projects made her realise her love for this aspect of work in particular, which subsequently led her to take the freelance leap and carve out a new path on her own creating illustrations based on striking interiors and exteriors.
Oh, and more recently SUSHI! Very much favourited by my girls. I love the Boiled Eggs & Soldiers painting best ☺️
Over to you Sally…
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I illustrate interior and travel scenes, and food and tabletop settings. I love to capture a happy moment in a day or holiday memory, generally involving food with a beautiful view, and maybe some lovely fabric somewhere. It’s all about the little details and I imagine I am styling a beautiful set when creating my art.
Where is your favourite place to draw?
At my desk, listening to music or a podcast. I like to sit in a nice cafe to come up with ideas. It helps being around people and have a little buzz.
What’s your favourite thing to draw on?
My sketch book to doodle ideas and then The Langton 300 gsm cold pressed watercolour paper for the final piece
What’s your top favourite tool to draw with?
Uni Pin Fine liner pen in size 0.2 mm
Do you have a favourite COMBO of tools you use?
Fine liner pen and Choose Keeping Japanese Seasons Gansai watercolour sets. I have the summer and autumn and would love the other two seasons too!
Is there a tool you always avoid?
Maybe a hard pencil
Is there a drawing tool you’d LOVE to try?
Saiun-do Japanese watercolour paint brushes
And finally
What’s your TOP favourite drawing snack?
A coffee with a Mrs Crimble’s GF classic French Madeleine
Thanks so much Sally. Let’s have a cuppa complete with gingham tablecloth, boiled eggs & soldiers followed by Madeleines soon please!
