Hello, how are you?
It’s interview number FOUR of ‘With What Do I dOOdle?’. I love using all sorts of things to draw with and I’m always up for a favourite tools chat, SO I’ve been asking some fellow creatives what they like to use.
This time it’s a mini interview with the ray of sunshine that is - Jenny Løvlie
Jenny is a children’s book illustrator from Norway based in London. She loves to draw, read, cook and spend time outdoors with her dog, Fergus. When it comes to illustrating children’s books she love stories with a strong female lead and stories about animals and nature. She’s also one of the loveliest people I know.
Here we go.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing birds!
My favourite thing to doodle is many tiny horses.
Where is your favourite place to draw?
When I’m just doodling, I love drawing in Cafes. otherwise I mostly draw in my studio or at my kitchen table.
What’s your favourite thing to draw on?
I’ve been working digitally for so long now, that I’ve almost forgotten about other surfaces! I like drawing on brown paper and painting on glass!
What’s your top favourite tool to draw with?
Can’t beat a nice ink pen!
[these ones are great fun from Jackson’s Art]
I like to get immediate results, so anything that makes big textures and yummy marks quickly.
Do you have a favourite COMBO of tools you use?
What I use the most in my work is a Wacom Cibtiq and photoshop. But if I’m having fun in my sketchbook I love layering rubber stamps with mark making. I got really into printmaking in art school!
Is there a tool you always avoid?
Rulers! I don’t like lines to be too straight!
Is there a drawing tool you’d LOVE to try?
I’d love to explore paints more, gouache is such a gorgeous medium, but I don’t really know what I’m doing with it!
[love these from Cass Art]
And finally
What’s your TOP favourite drawing snack?
Ooo! When I’m on a deadline it’s always gummy bears! Other snacks I enjoy are Twiglets and those mini peanut butter cups.
