Hello hello, how are you?
I hope you’ve had a good week.
It’s been another super busy one here filled with KIDS art clubs, recipe book making, sOOthing dOOdling (thank the lord) and diggers finally finishing the garden ready for pebbles & lawn around the studio, hooray! My massive half barrels can’t WAIT to be planted! Soon soon soon…
I’ve just got home from my lovely neighbours where I’ve been sharing my sourdough starter and doing a speedy bread making demo. I did a course back in 2018 and we LOVE a bake here.
Baking then all went a bit bonkers during lockdown didn’t it. I’m in AWE of the incredible bread carving artists out there like Linda Ring (@lindasofiaring) and Alessia Salvini who make loaves like this…
Just stunning. Mine are much less fancy looking BUT still quite yummy slathered in butter & strawberry jam!
It was strike day at school last Thursday and I held an ART Club for the kids which was EXHAUSTING but great fun. We did lots of stuff but my top fave was drawing dragons, collaged with millions of rainbow scales inspired by brilliant JILL & Dragon, Lesley Barnes. Here’s a peep.
AND with my kids I’ve been snapping their Sylvanian themed interior creations. They love making house, and I love the combo of the creature comforts nestled inside our properly vintage dolls house (rescued from mum and dads loft when we cleared their house out a couple of years ago).
The wallpapers are AMAZING for a start. I’m setting myself a new challenge to draw more interior spaces. What better than to start in miniature I thought?
Hehe… the little one on the loo! TOO cute! And that turquoise toilet lid!
I’m OBSESSED with my new POSCA pens, and wondering why it’s taken me SO long to get some. I guess I’ve never really enjoyed the feeling of a paint pen so much. Lots of them seem a bit to ‘good’ and the marks they make a bit too controlled and perfect for my imperfect drawings. BUT these pens are SO GOOD.
Brilliant when combining with other tools, properly opaque and zingy colour, yet really textured and scratchy if you need them to be too. AND you can water them down with a paint brush changing the consistency to a super soft watercolour paint. I’m in LOVE.
Here’s a drawing from last weeks Creative dOOdling session using said pens, watercolour and a bit of pencil too… on the back of an envelope, OBVs.
It’s bank hols tomorrow, yay! And back to more strike day KIDS art club on Tuesday… wish me luck!
I can’t wait to have a dOOdle and next Wednesday where we’re drawing all things GEOMETRIC.
If you fancy coming along I’m giving away one of my special edition dOOdling books, (specially made for the Dulwich Picture Gallery), to every new subscriber from this moment until next Sunday!
It’s very fun and really does work in the calming the mind department, I promise!
Happy Sunday all round. Have a lovely one.
Wish you were here!
I LOVE the sweet drawing of your garden Lisa and I am big fan of posca pens. They work so nicely on so many surfaces and the kids love them for drawing on rocks and pebbles x
