Hello, how’s your week been?
It’s been half term here and we’ve been embracing the pumpkin carving & googly eyes (on Fondant Fancies if you please). Love a fondant fancy, and a googly eye.
I’ve also been gathering & organising some boxes of inspiration and realised how much I like collecting images of graphics & fonts. I seem to have a LOT.
Particularly old Letraset sheets, which mostly don’t even work very well to transfer anymore BUT look SO nice as faded blue transparent sheets filled with bold black letters neatly lined up in rows. I have a big box of them, lugged home years ago from a Parisian flea market. I’ve used them on card designs, drawings, in books and more recently as titles on mailers & stickers.
I seem to snap fonts, gather packaging & notice hand written signs wherever I go. Here are some favourites:
Writing, text and type (thanks to my £5 Olympia type writer picked up from a charity shop 10 years ago) feature a lot in my work.
From Chilly Dippers:
To alphabet posters:
And even adding special details to personalised illustrations & portraits.
It’s always been this way. One of those favourite elements I guess.
Are you a collector? Let me know, we can start a club!
Very excitedly lots of these font-peppered illustrations are available to order exclusively via the new online store at Holly & Co. They have a pretty snazzy logo too!
I’m delighted to be part of this curated marketplace created by Holly Tucker MBE. There are so many brilliant businesses featured. Click here to find out more.
I’m super excited to be back underneath the tarpaulin at another great (local) market, Feast, next weekend too!
If you’re in the SE London area then come and say hi! Great makers galore, and me too!
In the mean time I’m off to polish off the last of the fondant fancies.
Happy Sunday!
