Hello,
How are you?
I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling a bit numb since Friday, and the Princess Of Wales announcing her cancer diagnosis. That news is always just so difficult to hear no matter who we are.
I think her bravery has moved many of us. Her courage, not only having to tell her children as we would have to, and as many of us have sadly had to hear from our own loved ones, but sharing it with the world too, to try and quieten the noise of speculation and awful chatter that’s sadly been buzzing around lately. She is an inspiration.
I’m gutted for her and gutted for everyone with cancer. Thank goodness for all of the progress being made to fight it. We all know someone who’s been lost to it.
My thoughts are very much with Kate, her family and all of those people navigating this awful disease.
With that said we’ve been having a quiet one this weekend, focussing on the little things. Because let’s face it, these are the bits that really count.
The girls have been having a lovely time with their cousin, playing robots, ‘MARGO’ Polo (yes) and peeking at the fishes in the local aquarium.
I was rather taken by the blue lobster yesterday in its stripy & spotty get up, looking all fancy and frilly. I doodled him when we got home. It took a couple of goes to get there but once I emphasised a few of his features and mixed up my tools a bit I relaxed into it and felt much better for it. I even gave him little shoes.
Paper planes have been a feature too, which led me to have a scroll and find an article on a chap called Harry Smith (via Flashbak.com), an avid collector of discarded paper planes. He gathered hundreds from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. Here’s the link if you’d like to read all about it.
This is our plane, snapped in the evening sunshine yesterday which was lovely:
And here’s one of Harry Smith’s, also rather lovely me thinks. That paper, all a bit faded and cracked complete with doodled dates on the side. Reminds me of the beautiful work of both Lisa Stubbs & Jennifer Collier:
Nothing quite soothes the soul like a good game of Pass The Pigs. A classic in our house (especially when we’re camping).
Did you have one too when you were small? Have you played? If not then I HIGHLY recommend. We have the travel version and love it. The Double Snouter is my favourite.
After that we made cookies with smarties.
Easy, ‘rainbowish’ and comforting. The perfect accompaniment to a film all snuggled on the sofa.
So that’s it. Home favourites. Nothing more, nothing less and as much as could be mustered this weekend.
Embrace the little things. Always.
Lovely post x I’m off to buy pass the pig tomorrow ❤️x
Oh I love this Lisa! And what a gorgeous lobster! So happy to have found your Substack 🩵
